Thanksgiving Feast

The Pilgrims and Indians in person. Zara leading kids on guitar.
Emily (standing in green) and her folk band.
My garden zucchini and a strawberry.

We had 3 long rows of tables and sat about 70 people.

Thanksgiving came with much to be thankful for. I put out some pics of our church Thanksgiving feast. It was a mix of Americans with Kiwis and a few misc Brits/Africa. We ate with a nice young couple from Charlotte, NC and a family from Miami via Tortolla, British West Indies for 5 years. We had live Scottish folk music from Emily and her 4 string band. The kids read some scriptures about Thankfullness and Zara lead them in a song about how God provides (Jehovah Jirah, My providor in Hebrew). With Lynn's help they had written a play and Claire told the story of American Indians helping the early pilgrims survive their first winter after leaving England for freedom to worship Christ apart from the Anglican branch of Christianity. The Abascals were the Indians with champ as Squanto, an Indian who some historians believe may have been at that first feast. The other kids dressed up like pilgrims and proclaimed how they liked to shoot turkeys (Andrew), play baseball (Caleb), and have friends like Squanto (Phillip). My neighbor Charmayne made some beautiful flower arrangements mostly from my yard flowers, flax, leaves. I think everyone enjoyed the evening and it was certainly good to have a taste of Americana. We haven't forgotten where we are from and feel very much American on soil or off. I like Thanksgiving because it reminds us of basic American values of thankfulness; multicultural respect, help, and coexistance; religious freedom, and of course sharing turkey with family. We missed sharing turkey with you.
