Mnt Cook and The Lakes

Breathtaking beyond pictures or words!

To say the scenery is spectacular would be an understatement. If your ever going to rent a camper van this is the place. It's like driving through the back drops of movies like The Lord of the Rings, Prince Caspian, and The Lion, Withc, and Wardrobe which were all filmed on the New Zealand South Island. The above photos are of Mnt Cook (highest peak) and Lake Pukaki.

What a view from this charming stone Church of The Good Shephard on Lake Tekapo.
I have been thinking a lot lately about Emmanuel, God with us. I know people struggling with marriages, the slow decline of MS, the upcoming death of friends with cancer, being sober in the face of alcoholism, and healing from lifelong emotional wounds. The promise of Christ with us as our friend, our comforter, our guide and the hope of life with him after all this is encouraging to me.

Camping life isn't bad in these mountains where cars are sparse and every other one is also a campervan. The campsites are clean and well equiped with internet, large multi-use kitchens, and hot bath houses. In between campgrounds, we enjoy pulling over for a picnic like this one with scenic views. The camper below is in front of our hotel before leaving Christ Church.

The first night at Omerama we had a campsite with wild flowers, a creek and a view of the distant mountains (below). Lynn and the kids enjoyed tubing a short stretch of the creek by our campsite. It all brought back sweet memories of my childhood camping in the Smokies except this time I watched from a folding camp chair with a cold one.

After tubing there was "Spaghetti night" in the camper and then to bed for another day treking through the mountains.
